Living with Fibromyalgia: My Visalus Challenge Day 3 – Cook

On a diet and I still have to cook for the family?

On a diet and I still have to cook for the family?

Day 3: This morning my body felt too heavy to move and the pain was overwhelming.  I can’t write, or read.  I need to listen to my body and give it the rest it’s demanding.  As the day went on I started feeling  better and this evening I decided to make dinner for the family…a little wine, a movie, and a home cooked meal. I did drink my shakes today and ate a smaller portion than usual for dinner.

I’m on a diet and I have to cook?

While I am on a diet, my family is not. I have twin 16 year olds at home and a spouse. Cooking is one of my responsibilities. Today, I am preparing a meal that is not the best combination of foods. Pork loin chops, with vegetables in a pressure cooker, white rice, and red beans. I skip the beans but have a pork chop, potatoes and rice with my meal. It took all of my will power not to taste the food as I cooked.

How do you manage cooking for the family when you’re dieting?

Because I got by with a little help from my girlfriends, I want to help you get help from your girlfriends. As always, please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences.

  1. Boy, it’s tough enough to have the discipline to diet … which for me requires removing all “no-no’s” from the house. But I don’t know how anyone does it having to have all that other stuff around … and having to cook it! Brave woman, you are!
